How much does a Buddhist funeral cost?
Our Buddhist packages are nett, all-inclusive starting prices: HDB void deck from S$5,888 (3-day) or S$6,588 (5-day), funeral parlour from S$4,588 (plus parlour rental), and direct cremation from S$2,288. Each package can be upgraded or personalised to your family's wishes.
What is included, and can it be customised?
A package covers the complete setup, a half-glass cremation casket, embalming, dressing and make-up, venerable monk chanting, floral tributes, a Mercedes hearse with pallbearers, ash collection and post-funeral prayer guidance. Pricing is nett, and every package can be upgraded or personalised.
Where can the wake be held?
Three options: an HDB void deck (for HDB residents), a funeral parlour (for private-property residents or those who prefer privacy), or a canopy setup on private property after a site assessment. If you prefer no wake, a direct cremation is also available.
How many days should the wake be, 3 or 5?
Buddhist wakes run an odd number of days (3, 5 or 7), as odd numbers mark the soul's transition. A 3-day wake is the most common, balancing tradition and practicality, while a 5-day gives the family more time to gather. With us a 3-day starts from S$5,888 and a 5-day from S$6,588, and we will advise what suits your customs.
What happens during the wake?
On the first day there is encoffin chanting. Prayer sessions continue through the wake, with three sessions on the final night, followed by chanting on the funeral and cremation day. All rites are led by venerable monks.
Do you help with the death certificate and permits?
Yes. A doctor must certify the death, either at the hospital or, for a passing at home, through a doctor we can link you with on our 24-hour hotline, 1800 800 1818. The digital death certificate is then used to apply for the cremation or burial permit, which we arrange for you.
What are the cremation and burial options?
Cremation is at Mandai Crematorium (S$100 for adults, S$50 for children; Mandai does not allow chanting on site) or Tze Toh Aum Temple (S$436, including prayers). Ground burial is only at Choa Chu Kang Cemetery, allocated by religion. We book whichever you choose at no extra fee.
When can we collect the ashes?
If the cremation is before 12pm, the ashes can usually be collected the same day. After 12pm, from 9am the next day.
What is the 49-day prayer?
Buddhist tradition places great importance on offerings and prayers during the 49 days after passing. Families usually place a memorial tablet at home and hold weekly prayers to generate merit for the departed.
What happens after the funeral?
We guide you through the prayer milestones: weekly offerings within the first 49 days, the 49th-day and 100th-day observances, and the one-year anniversary. We also help arrange the final resting place for the ashes.
What should the family prepare?
One set of clothing to bring to the hospital, and another for the wake. Choose a clear, well-lit photograph of your loved one in advance, and keep a backup. We guide you through everything else.
